“Mosaic of voices” is the new podcast dedicated to sites and people of the ancient port of Rome, produced by the Archaeological Park of Ostia antica with Loquis, the first platform in the wolrd that produce travel podcast geolocalized.
In 13 episodes, “Mosaic of voices” takes the listener on a sound journey through the monuments, necropolises and residential neighbourhoods that tell the story of Ostia’s extraordinary economic and cultural vitality between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. This narrative focuses on the profoundly cosmopolitan character of the city, frequented by merchants, officials and citizens from all over the Empire, and restores its identity as a major commercial hub and “luxury” residential centre of ancient Rome.
The episodes, lasting approximately 7-8 minutes, intertwine the author’s narratives with the voices of experts and archaeologists – including Park Director Alessandro D’Alessio – to offer a lively and accessible perspective on the places and people who have shaped the history of the site.
From the monumental gate of Porta Romana to the Piazzale delle Corporazioni, from the residential neibhbourhoods to the Necropolis of Pianabella and Laurentina, to the Julius II Castle at the Museum of roman Ships (Fiumicino), every episode become a stop on a sound map that combines archaeology, history and memory.
Mosaic of voices is available both in the desktop version and through the Loquis app, which can be downloaded for free from all stores. Here the link to the English version: https://www.loquis.com/en/channel/436567/Mosaic+of+Voices+Stories+of+Ancient+Ostia+and+Port
