{"id":6466,"date":"2026-01-12T09:06:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T09:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ostiaantica.cultura.gov.it\/pannelli-didattici-e-mappe\/larea-del-teatro\/teatro\/"},"modified":"2026-01-16T12:49:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T12:49:56","slug":"teatro","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ostiaantica.cultura.gov.it\/en\/educational-panels-and-maps\/larea-del-teatro\/teatro\/","title":{"rendered":"Theatre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The theatre, one of the most ancient to be made of brick, was built in the last years of the 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century BC, as attested by the inscription mentioning Agrippa, the son-in-law of Augustus; it was enlarged in the late 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0century AD to hold 4000 spectators.<\/p>\n<p>A portico with shops (A) opened towards the Decumanus, over which an arch in honour of the emperor Caracalla was built in AD 216 next to the theatre entrance (B).
